Two Roadblocks to Success

The fear of being prideful and the fear of criticism

Recently, I’ve noticed two recurring themes coming to the surface among my coaching clients. These are often self-employed female entrepreneurs, authors or career changers (including those moving up the ranks within a company).

In front of me, I see brilliant, talented women who have reached a block in their otherwise successful personal and professional development. That block typically has two components: 1) The fear of appearing prideful and 2) the fear of criticism.

Many of us were told early on that pride was a boastful and self-centered emotion. But, in truth, it’s often a misunderstood emotion. Pride is an important component of happiness — that is, how we serve the world. It is tied to our purpose.

And when it comes to criticism, many fear the embarrassment of someone publicly mocking our efforts. That embarrassment may turn into self-doubt, causing us to stifle our light and give away personal power.

The truth is, we cannot give to the world, or serve the world, if we are held back by the fear of being called prideful, or the fear of someone trying to diminish us and our self-worth.

In this video, I talk more about these roadblocks and how to move through them for greater personal and professional success.
